DESCRIPTION

About The Theater Collective: The Theater Collective  is a cooperative artistic project that produces theatrical works by and about underrepresented and misrepresented people in society. We understand the necessity of commercializing such works in order to break barriers outside of our cultural echo chambers. We bring not a new definition to inclusion, but the true definition - including all and creating a dialogue in which we can grow and better understand each other; this first and foremost involves uplifting the voices and stories of women, people of color, individuals with physical disabilities, LGBTQ+, immigrants, and more. The Theater Collective is dedicated to providing theater that explores sexuality, gender, race religion, politics, and all things that formulate culture in an accurate and progressive way. The Job: We are now searching for a director for Backyard/Desert by Nancy Irene Kelly, The Theater Collective’s first full production! Rehearsals will take place in late August and the show will be from September 5th-9th at the TADA Theater in NoMad. Interviews will be held by appointment on Wednesday afternoon (7/18) at a location in Union Square.

The Play: A female border patrol agent finds a young migrant lost in the Arizona desert. The wrenching encounter slowly erodes the foundations upon which she’s built her life, leading her to question her choices and relationships. Torn between the comfort of her unexamined values and a budding awareness of the human ties that transcend all borders, she must make a wrenching decision in order to follow her truth.

What you need to do: Email your resume, portfolio, and other information you feel is relevant to THETHEATERCOLLECTIVE.COM with the subject line “Your Name-B/D Director”.  We will be screening these emails for directors with moderate experience or a degree equivalent. (Knowledge on immigration politics and speaking/reading Spanish will give you a huge advantage!) If you are selected for an interview we will respond with a time slot and the first 30 pages of the play.

We look forward to working with you!
