Anne: A girl in her twenties but should look younger (mid-teens), talks to the audience reflecting back on her life as a young Jewish girl in Berlin in 1938, German (no accent wanted), intelligent, sensitive, loving, grows up fast, loses all her family in the Holocaust.

Mr. Lehmann: A man in his late twenties or thirties, Anne’s father, German (no accent wanted), an army veteran,  has pride, intelligent, proper demeanor but with anguish under the surface, slowly stripped of all his rights as a citizen, becomes embittered that Germany is rejecting him, later killed in the Holocaust.

Mrs. Lehmann:  A woman in her late twenties or thirties, Anne’s mother, German (no accent wanted), maternal, warm, loving, proper, an optimist who is naively convinced that the Nazi threat will soon pass, struggles to hold onto a normal family life in Nazi Germany, later killed in the Holocaust.

Dorit: a girl in her twenties but should look younger (mid-teens), Anne’s best friend and schoolmate, Protestant, German (no accent wanted), lively, excitable, talkative, likeable but naive, joins then quits the Hitler Youth Movement.

Anne of Green Gables:

Anne: female, 20s but can play younger (pre-teen), a spirited orphan, rather talkative, loving, imaginative, searching for a home, hopes she’ll be adopted by Mathew & Marilla, legit/mix.

Marilla: female, late 20s or 30s, strong, no-nonsense, sensible, runs the farm Green Gables with a steady hand, disappointed in love, a gruff exterior hides a warm heart, legit/mix.

Matthew:  male, late 20s or 30s, a man of few words but a heart of gold, intelligent, clever, lets his sister Marilla think she is in charge, wants to adopt Anne, lyric baritone.

Mrs. Lynde: female, 20s or 30s, the town gossip but still likable, fun, very opinionated, talkative, against Anne staying at Green Gables, legit/mix.
