Access Theater is seeking a combination Artistic & Managing Director (AMD) to build on Access Theater's rich history of discovering and presenting the work of new and influential downtown theater artists. Over the years, Access has co-produced Bedlam's wildly successful inaugural production of Saint Joan; Access produced the world premieres of The Killing Act by Academy-Award-Winner Tom McCarthy (Spotlight) starring Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Sakina's Restaurant written by and starring The Daily Show's Aasif Mandvi, Tape by Stephen Belber and many other premieres and innovative productions. Access has provided rehearsal space for top companies such as the Public Theater, TFANA, and Steppenwolf and was the location for the black box theater scenes for the film The Big Sick. Through our residency program, our writing group, our extensive collaborations with other theater companies, and our additional programming, Access Theater has nurtured risk-taking artists for nearly 3 decades and we're now seeking artistic leadership to both continue and to build on that tradition.

The position is part-time, starting mid-February, approximately 20 hours per week with flexible hours. Pay is $1200/month.

Access Theater is a not-for-profit space for the arts in its 27th year with two 60 seat performance spaces set in a historic textile warehouse in the loft district of Tribeca.

The position requires someone who is capable of taking on the artistic leadership of Access Theater which produces, co-produces and presents new work. Access has a writers' group and robust residency program which supports theater companies and theater artists developing work during annual residencies.

The vast majority of the position is devoted to managing Access Theater's very busy spaces. We have two shows (one in each space) nearly every night of the year. The AMD fields inquiries, meets with potential theater companies and helps to curate and organize the schedule to keep the theater fully booked while maintaining high artistic standards. The AMD helps productions navigate their use of the space to pre-empt problems and troubleshoot as necessary.

The AMD is in a leadership position and advocates for Access Theater, runs our development work, manages the budget, the physical space and the artistic community of Access Theater. Some leadership and organizational experience is required, although it does not need to be specifically theater leadership. The AMD cannot maintain a similar leadership role in another theater company to avoid potential conflicts of interest.

The position is a challenging and exciting one for an ambitious, organized and nurturing person who is interested in helping to maintain and strengthen a vibrant artistic home for New York's theater artists.

The position pays $1200 per month or 10% of income generated, whichever amount is higher. Some restrictions apply. Payroll will be processed through a payroll company.
