Purpose of Internship: To provide the opportunity to be exposed to the overall artistic and programming activities of a non-profit performing arts department, focusing on dramaturgy and artistic administration. Main activities will include tasks related to season programming, researching new plays and projects for potential programming, day-of event support for resident artists, and coordination of post-performance dialogues for resident artists.

  • Learn how to manage the administrative process surrounding successful programming and event production.

  • Essential Duties & Responsibilities Assist Senior Producer with the research and organization of prospective projects for upcoming seasons.
  • Assist Senior Producer and Artist Services Coordinator with coordinating show coverage calendars and corresponding with artists.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of post-performance artist/audience dialogs for resident artists.
  • Work with BRIC staff to oversee day-of event coordination.
  • Attend play readings and workshop productions of new work and help Senior Producer with documentation of department activities.

  • Desired Education/Experience/Skills Strong general knowledge of performing arts landscape of New York City and Brooklyn in particular.
  • Excellent writing and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and use good judgment during events.
  • Highly organized and detailed; ability to keep track of information on artists, performances, and progress on various projects.
  • Knowledge of PC computers, Google Docs, and Office.
  • Background in theater, dance, performance art, dramaturgy, or dramatic criticism, and a desire to work with unconventional, multi-disciplinary performance material. 


20 hours per week; availability to cover live performance events which are primarily evenings and weekends is essential. Some office hours will be required and can be based on applicant schedules. College credit may be arranged. Internship start and end dates flexible.

BRIC’s performing arts programs present emerging and established artists in music, dance, theater, and multidisciplinary performance to broad audiences from Brooklyn and throughout New York City, and support the development of new work. Signature programs include the BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival, which presents more than 25 free performances each summer at the Prospect Park Bandshell, and our multi-genre commissioning and residency programs.
