3-DAY INTENSIVE: ACTING THROUGH ETUDES
WITH TATYANA KHAIKIN
OCT 26-28, 2017
The Stanislavsky Method developed by Konstantin Stanislavsky in the beginning of the 20th Century forever changed acting, inspiring actors and theatre practitioners for decades. One of the most important discoveries of Stanislavsky are etudes, an acting technique developed by the Russian master, and the glue that keeps his method together. Widely used in Russian theatre, etudes empower the creative agency of the actor, reveal the psychology of the character and unlock the emotional life of the scene.
This three-day intensive workshop, taught by expert Tatyana Khaikin, is a practical and theoretical introduction to Stanislavsky’s etude method as taught in the best Russian acting schools. Running 3 hours a day, the classes will be divided into theory, exercises and curated etude presentation. By the end of the workshop, actors will have gained a foundational understanding of Etude work that will forever impact the effectiveness of their partner work, the way they approach character and scene development.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Tatyana Khaikin has spent almost 40 years in the theatre. In the late 70s, in New York City, she studied with Sonya Moore, then one of the last surviving students of Stanislavsky himself, and later with Laurence Senelick at Tufts University. After finishing her studies, she proceeded to work with many outstanding Russian directors in the US, subsequently joining the Moscow Arts Theater (MXAT) to run their American Studio for over 7 years. At present, she works closely with Konstantin Raikin's School and Dmitry Krymov's Lab, both in Moscow. As a true believer in the Etude Method, Tatyana wants to share her knowledge and experience in this workshop to help empower actors in in their craft.
