The Kiln Theatre in London will bring Zadie Smith's acclaimed debut novel White Teeth to the stage this fall in a new adaptation featuring music and dance by playwright Stephen Sharkey. Artistic Director Indhu Rubasingham will direct the world premiere, which will begin performances October 26.

Set against London’s racial and cultural tapestry, White Teeth is a fast-paced journey through history, different cultures, and chance encounters. The story itself is rooted in the Kiln's northwest London neighborhood of Kilburn and is billed by the theatre as an "an extraordinary revelry" of the area.

The cast includes Ayesha Antoine as Irie Jones, Michele Austin as Mad Mary, Philip Bird as Des/Marc Perret/Marcus Chalfen, Ayesha Dharker as Alsana Iqbal, Naomi Frederick as Ruth/Poppy/Joyce Chalfen, Tony Jayawardena as Samad Iqbal, Richard Lumsden as Archie Jones, Karl Queensborough as Anthony /Denise/Josh Chalfen, Sid Sagar as Magid Iqbal, Amanda Wilkin as Rosie Jones, Assad Zaman as Millat Iqbal, and actor-musicians Matthew Churcher, Nenda Neurer, and Zoe West.

White Teeth will open November 5 and is scheduled to run through 22 December.

Sharkey has translated and adapted a wide variety of stories for the stage, including classic works and stories by Euripides, Aristophanes, Oscar Wilde, Dostoevsky, Charles Dickens, and Bertolt Brecht.
