Will Broadway’s Frankie and Johnny Be Michael Shannon’s Last Show? | Playbill

Video Will Broadway’s Frankie and Johnny Be Michael Shannon’s Last Show? The Tony Award-nominated actor talks retirement rumors and his upcoming play opposite Audra McDonald.

Michael Shannon stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon April 19 to discuss his upcoming Broadway play, Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune.

The revival of the Terrence McNally play begins previews May 4 at the Broadhurst Theatre.

Shannon plays Johnny, a cook at a restaurant, with Audra McDonald as Frankie, a waitress. “We go out on a date, and it's about the evening we spend together after,” Shannon explained.

Still, host Jimmy Fallon asked Shannon about the rumors of his retirement from acting. “I just want to be able to enjoy the prime of my life,” the Oscar nominee said. “I just feel I've just been too harried recently.”

Shannon also spoke about his unusual pre-show ritual in the video above.

The actor last appeared on Broadway in Long Day’s Journey Into Night in 2016, for which he earned his Tony nomination. Prior to that, he made his Broadway debut in Grace in 2012.
