Broadway News Wicked Becomes 6th Longest-Running Show in Broadway History July 12 The international hit musical continues at the Gershwin Theatre.

When Wicked plays its 6,138th performance at the Gershwin Theatre July 12 at 8 PM, it will pass A Chorus Line to become the sixth longest-running production in Broadway history.

The Broadway company is currently headed by Jackie Burns as Elphaba, Amanda Jane Cooper as Glinda, Isabel Keating as Madame Morrible, Kevin Chamberlin as The Wizard, Ashley Parker Angel as Fiyero, Jye Frasca as Boq, Kristen Martin as Nessarose, and Martin Moran as Dr. Dillamond.

Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, Wicked tells the untold story of the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good before Dorothy drops in. Elphaba, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery, and misunderstood. Glinda is beautiful, ambitious, and very popular.

Wicked has music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman. The production is directed by Joe Mantello with musical staging by Wayne Cilento.

Since opening in 2003, Wicked has been performed in over 100 cities in 15 countries around the world. Celebrating its 15th anniversary on Broadway this fall, the musical has amassed over $4.5 billion in global sales and has been seen by over 55 million people worldwide.

Wicked is produced by Marc Platt, Universal Pictures, The Araca Group, Jon B. Platt, and David Stone.

The musical won 2004 Tony Awards for Best Actress in a Musical (Idina Menzel), Best Costume Design (Susan Hilferty), and Best Scenic Design (Eugene Lee).
