With only three days left to prepare, 2018 Tony Awards hosts Sara Bareilles and Josh Groban met the press inside Radio City Music Hall before a rehearsal at the famed New York venue.

The two friends have each been nominated for Tonys previously, Bareilles for her score to 2016’s Waitress and Groban for Leading Actor in a Musical for Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 last year. Bareilles is also nominated this season as one of the songwriters for SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical.

Both Groban and Bareilles are excited to bring their writing and performing talents to the stage on June 10 during the 72nd Annual Tony Awards broadcast. “We've been having fun just riffing off each other, but we also have an incredible couple of writers that have been helping us out as well,” says Groban.

There will also be original music written by the duo performed during the ceremony. “It was a co-write. Original music for the show,” says Bareilles, ”but also some reimagining of more familiar songs.”

“We just wanted to bring the flavor of our personalities to the night and really embrace and enjoy this community that means so much to us,” she adds.

Is there anyone they’re most looking forward to seeing? “Bernadette [Peters] is sitting in the front row,” says Bareilles.

“We're just hoping not to lose it because of that fact alone,” says Groban. “If we can get a smile from her, we'll feel like we've accomplished a lot.”
