Reviews are trickling in for the movie adaptation of Marjorie Prime, a new film based on the Pulitzer Prize finalist play by Jordan Harrison. The film is directed by Michael Almereyda, who co-wrote the screenplay with playwright Harrison, and will screen in select New York City and Los Angeles theatres beginning August 18.
The science-fiction style drama depicts 86-year-old Marjorie, who has employed the help of a robot, an identical replica of her late husband, to feed the story of her life back to her.
Lois Smith, who starred as Marjorie in the 2015 Playwrights Horizons production, returns to the role in the film. She is joined by Mad Men star Jon Hamm as her prime, Walter, and Geena Davis, who plays her daughter, with Tim Robbins, who plays her son-in-law.
