The Verdict What Did Critics Have to Say About London's Against, Starring Ben Whishaw? Christopher Shinn’s new play about a billionaire tech genius opened August 18 at the Almeida Theatre.

Christopher Shinn’s latest play, Against, set in Silicon Valley in the future, is receiving its world premiere at London’s Almeida Theatre through September 30. Directed by Ian Rickson (Jerusalem, The Weir), the play stars Ben Whishaw as Luke, an aerospace billionaire who believes that God is talking to him.

The cast also includes Fehinti Balogun, Elliot Barnes-Worrell, Nancy Crane, Emma D'Arcy, Amanda Hale, Kevin Harvey, Adelle Leonce, Martin McDougall, Philippe Spall, Gavin Spokes, and Naomi Wirthner.

Previews began August 12.

American playwright Shinn’s works also include Dying City, Other People, On the Mountain, Teddy Ferrara, Now or Later, and a 2009 Broadway adaptation of Hedda Gabler, which was directed by Rickson.

Whishaw was most recently seen on Broadway in The Crucible. His film credits include A Hologram for The King, The Danish Girl, Suffragette, the James Bond films Spectre and Skyfall as Q, Paddington, Perfume, and Brideshead Revisited. He won a BAFTA for the BBC adaptation of Richard II, directed by Rupert Goold.
