Video Watch the Trailer for the Hollywood-Set The Maid's Tragedy Pocket Universe puts a female, contemporary spin on Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher’s Jacobean revenge drama.

Pocket Universe, the company behind last summer’s Julius Caesar set in an all-girls high school, will return Off-Broadway this June with a fresh take on Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher’s Jacobean revenge drama The Maid's Tragedy, set in present-day Hollywood.

In the Pocket Universe production, the traditionally male Melantius, a soldier who must challenge the monarchy and reclaim his family's honor, is re-imagined as a female film producer working in Los Angeles. Careers are jeopardized and lives are threatened, as everyone contends with one question: when the person in power robs you of yours, how far will you go to get it back?

Conceived by Alyssa May Gold (Julius Caesar, Brilliant Traces) and directed by Lucy Gram, the production will play June 13–30 at the Access Theater. Click here for tickets.
