The Tony-nominated solo show will be available for streaming in November.

John Leguizamo, who earned a 2018 Special Tony Award, brings his recent Broadway solo play Latin History for Morons to Netflix beginning November 5.

Nominated for a 2018 Tony Award for Best Play, Latin History for Morons was filmed over three performances in June of this year at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center following a successful run at Studio 54 on Broadway.

Directed by Tony Taccone and written by Leguizamo, the comedian and playwright takes on the history of Latin American peoples from the Mayans to the present day after his son is the victim of a racial slur at school. Believing that knowledge is the best defense against prejudice, Leguizamo set out to find Latin American heroes for his son to admire, and wound up learning loads in the process. Of course, Leguizamo brings his singular comedic flair and contemporary cultural references (there’s a lot of dancing and music for a play) in order to entertain while educating.

Latin History for Morons first debuted at The Public Theater in 2017. He won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Solo Performance for Ghetto Klown in 2011. He appeared on Broadway in American Buffalo and his Sexaholix. His Broadway debut in 1998 with Freak earned him a Tony nomination for Best Play and Best Actor in a Play. Next up, Leguizamo is working on a musical: Kiss My Aztec with a book by Taccone and Leguizamo, music by Benjamin Velez, and lyrics by David Kamp, Leguizamo and Velez. Read more about it here.
