Sutton Foster addressed the class of 2019 at Boston Conservatory at Berklee’s commencement ceremony May 11. Watch the honorary doctorate recipient's speech in the video above.
The two-time Tony Award winner and star of TV Land’s Younger had three pieces of advice for the graduates: “Say yes” (which Foster has done numerous times in her career—and quite literally on Say Yes to the Dress), “Trust your gut” (as she did when choosing an understudy track in Thoroughly Modern Millie over starring in Les Misérables), and “Get a hobby” (other than waiting for approval from somebody else).
Interspersed between her pearls of wisdom were nods to show tunes, including Kander and Ebb’s “Yes,” Les Misérables’ “On My Own,” and even an all-too-quick “Rose’s Turn.”Foster, who last starred on Broadway in Violet, will return to the stage in 2020 opposite Hugh Jackman in The Music Man.
