Video Watch Anne Hathaway Perform the Paper Mill Players Song From Her Childhood The Oscar-winning actor talks about her theatre roots on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Anne Hathaway stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! January 14 to talk about her new movie Serenity, co-starring Matthew McConaughey.

Hathaway, who won her Academy Award for the role of Fantine in the film adaptation of Les Misérables, reveals that she grew up in the theatre. Her mother, actor Kate McCauley, actually played Fantine in the first national tour of Les Miz.

“I grew up backstage at theatres watching her,” said Hathaway, who spent her childhood in after-school theatre programs, like the one at New Jersey’s Paper Mill Playhouse.

“We would do adaptations of Disney movies,” she said. ”We did The Little Mermaid, and we did Aladdin.” The Paper Mill Players, as the youth troupe was known, also had their own theme song—to which Hathaway remembers every word and corresponding choreography. She proved it in the video above.

But Hathaway doesn’t get to sing much anymore, thanks to her three-year-old son. “He hates [my voice],” she said with a sigh. “I'm not allowed to sing in my own house anymore.”

Singing or not, over the years, Hathaway has kept her foot in theatre working Off-Broadway at the Public, including her performance as Viola in Twelfth NIght at Shakespeare in the Park and 2015’s Grounded.
