The infamous (and beloved) musical Carrie heads to the small screen in the April 18 musical episode of Riverdale. Check out the cast of the CW drama performing the show’s opening number “In” in the clip above.
Several students from Riverdale High will take the stage in the new episode, including Cheryl Blossom (played on screen by Madelaine Petsch) as the title role, Archie (K.J. Apa) as Tommy Ross, Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) as Chris Hargensen, and Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) as Sue Snell, and Alice Cooper (Mädchen Amick) as Margaret White. Kevin (Casey Cott) will direct his fellow students.
In the video below, the cast gets ready for their production as they sing the second act opener from the Michael Gore and Dean Pitchford score: “A Night We’ll Never Forget.”
The musical adaptation of Stephen King's novel premiered in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1988. The Broadway bow, which featured Tony winner Betty Buckley as Carrie's mother Margaret, closed after 16 previous and five regular performances.
Though it was a critical and financial failure, the musical received a cult-like status in the decades that followed. A revised edition, featuring several new songs and a reworked book by Lawrence D. Cohen, premiered at Off-Broadway's MCC Theater in 2012 (this is the version the Riverdale production uses).
