Tony-nominated Waitress composer Sara Bareilles has joined forces with Waitress book writer Jessie Nelson and producer J.J. Nelson will write and direct the first of the 10 episodes.

The series, which is the title of Bareilles’ first album, is a love letter to the “diverse musicality” of New York and will explore finding one's voice and the courage to utilize it. Bareilles will pen music for the series; whether she will also appear in the program has not been announced.

Bareilles, recently seen in the NBC live broadcast of Jesus Christ Superstar, is also set to co-host the 2018 Tony Awards alongside Tony nominee Josh Groban.
