The Vineyard Theatre has announced that the 2017–2018 season will feature the world premiere The Amateurs, a new play by Marjorie Prime playwright and Pulitzer Prize finalist Jordan Harrison. The production joins the previously announced world premiere of John Kander, David Thompson, and Susan Stroman’s The Beast in the Jungle.

The Amateurs will be directed by Oliver Butler. Casting, a full creative team, and run dates will be announced at a later time.
In The Amateurs, a scrappy troupe of pageant players attempts to outrun the Black Death across 14th century Europe. When a new actor joins the group, leading lady Hollis is sent in search of answers. The new comedy examines the intersection of creativity, art, and crisis.
The play was originally commissioned by South Coast Repertory and received a staged reading as part of the Goodman Theatre’s New Stages Festival.
An additional show for The Vineyard’s 2017–2018 season will be announced at a later date.
As the newest Audrey in the hit Off-Broadway production, Monsoon was inspired by Ellen Green and Michaela Jaé Rodriguez.
Set in 1759, the piece centers on a young woman who has been sentenced to death and the 12 women who are tasked with verifying her pregnancy.
The 68th Annual Drama Desk Awards will be held June 10 at the Skirball Center.
Steven Skybell, Dakin Matthews, and more will be featured in the benefit, which is part of GTG's Project Shaw series.
The event will feature songs from musicals the Off-Broadway company has produced in its 35-year history.
The Titaníque co-writer and star will lead the cast as a woman trapped in a Golden Age Off-Broadway musical.
Whitney White is directing the Off-Broadway production.
Winners will be named May 13 with an awards ceremony set for May 23.
