Oscar nominee Uma Thurman is set to make her Broadway debut this fall in a play written by Beau Willimon and helmed by Amélie director Pam MacKinnon. The House of Cards writer will be making his own Broadway debut with The Parisian Woman, inspired by Henry Becque’s late 19th century comedy La Parisienne.
Opening night for the limited engagement is set for November 30 at a theatre to be announced. Full casting, design team, and preview dates will be announced at a later date.
Thurman’s film credits include Imposters, The Slap, Smash, and Pulp Fiction, for which she received an Academy Award nomination. In The Parisian Woman, a tale of drama and politics set in present day Washington D.C., Thurman will play Chloe, one half of a power couple angling to secure an important judicial post.
“In Washington, D.C., powerful friends are the only kind worth having, especially after the 2016 election,“ read production notes for the play. “At the center is Chloe (Thurman), a socialite armed with charm and wit, coming to terms with politics, her past, her marriage and an uncertain future. Dark humor and drama collide at this pivotal moment in Chloe's life, and in our nation's, when the truth isn't obvious and stakes couldn't be higher.“
The play was commissioned and developed by The Flea Theater in New York City, and was originally produced by South Coast Repertory.
The Broadway engagement of The Parisian Woman will be produced by Marc Routh, Richard Frankel, Tom Viertel, Steven Baruch, and Steve Traxler.
