Legendary actor Nathan Lane stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon May 14 to celebrate his sixth Tony nomination, this most recent nod for portraying Roy Cohn in Angels in America on Broadway.

“It’s the culmination of a lot of work,” he told host Jimmy Fallon. “I love the Tony Awards. They’re just like the Oscars if the Oscars had a fabulous Queer Eye makeover. I look forward to the afterparty where I get to explain who Roy Cohn was to the Mean Girls.”

Lane had some tips for Fallon if he plans to attend the 72nd Annual Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall June 10: “Save time by injecting Chardonnay directly into your veins. Do wax everywhere and I mean everywhere. Don’t try to take the flask out of Angela Lansbury’s hands. That could get ugly. And three words: Spanx. Spanx. Spanx.”

But Lane did speak about Angels and what it has been like to work on one of “the greatest plays ever written.”

“I like to tell people, ‘Yes it's seven-and-a-half hours but it's not a rectal exam. It's a Pulitzer Prize-winning, Tony Award-winning masterpiece by this genius Tony Kushner with a spectacular cast led by the magnificent Andrew Garfield,” said Lane. The play is nominated for a record 11 Tony Awards, including Lane’s recognition.

Lane earned his first nomination in 1992 for his performance as Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls. He then won a Tony in 1996 for A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and won again in 2011 for The Producers. He earned a nomination in 2013 for The Nance and a nomination in 2017 for The Front Page.
