Steve Kazee, who won the 2012 Tony Award as Best Actor in a Musical for his performance as the conflicted and lovelorn Irish street singer Guy in Once, will take part in an August 7 reunion of the show’s various casts at the Rockwood Music Hall in Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
The Once “Reunion Jam” is being organized to benefit VH1’s Save The Music Foundation, which promotes music in public education around the country. Organizers are promising performers from every U.S. production in addition to the Broadway original. Among those taking part: Julia Hoffman, Lauren Thomas, Cassidy Stirtz, and Erica Spyres, Erica Swindell, and Ryan Vona, plus Matt DeAngelis (Waitress), Brandon Ellis (Bandstand), and Joe Carroll (Bandstand).
The event will also include performances by bands Common Jack (featuring Once alum John Steven Gardner), Bonfire Falls featuring Erikka Walsh (Once), The Understudies and Water and Rye featuring Jenna Rubaii (Groundhog Day).
Once, which has a score by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, won eight 2012 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book (Enda Walsh), and Best Choreography (Steven Hoggett).
Kazee made his Broadway debut as a replacement Sir Lancelot in Spamalot, and was featured in Seascape, 110 in the Shade (opposite Audra McDonald), and To Be or Not To Be, before Once, which was his most recent Broadway credit. He has since pursued a career on TV and in concerts, appearing on Working Class, Elementary, Drop Dead Diva, NCIS, and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
Additional performers will be announced closer to the August 7 event.
Kazee is also scheduled to make two solo concert appearances at Feinstein’s/54 Below, July 27 and August 3.
Tickets for the reunion cost $20; $35 for a table seat, and can be ordered here. The Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2 is located at 196 Allen Street in Manhattan. The show starts at 7 PM.
