Broadway News Tony-Winning Best Musical Kinky Boots Ends Broadway Run April 7 The hit musical by Harvey Fierstein and Cyndi Lauper opened in April 2013 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.

Kinky Boots, the 2013 Tony winner for Best Musical, ends its run April 7 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. At the time of closing, the hit musical will have played 2,507 regular performances and 34 previews, making it the 25th longest-running production in Broadway history.

The winner of six 2013 Tony Awards, Kinky Boots features a Tony-winning score by Cyndi Lauper and a book by Tony winner Harvey Fierstein. The production, directed and choreographed by Tony winner Jerry Mitchell, officially opened April 4, 2013.

The original Broadway company was headed by Billy Porter as indefatigable drag performer Lola, whose broken heel helps mend a broken wing for a foundering shoe-maker, originally played by Stark Sands. Both Porter and Sands were Tony-nominated for their performances; Porter won the Tony for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical.

The current Broadway cast is led by J. Harrison Ghee as Lola, Andy Kelso as Charlie Price, and Carrie St. Louis as Lauren, with Caroline Bowman, Marcus Neville, and Daniel Stewart Sherman.

The production has scenic design by Tony winner David Rockwell, costume design by Tony winner Gregg Barnes, lighting design by Tony winner Kenneth Posner, sound design by Tony winner John Shivers, hair design by Josh Marquette, makeup design by Randy Houston Mercer, casting by Telsey + Company, with musical supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations by Tony and Grammy winner Stephen Oremus.

Kinky Boots continues playing on stages throughout the globe and is currently represented with a London production in its fourth year (having won the 2016 Olivier Award for Best Musical), a U.K. tour, a North American national tour in its fifth year, and a Japanese production returning to Tokyo and Osaka for a second season.

The Grammy-winning Original Broadway Cast Recording of Kinky Boots is available on Sony Masterworks Broadway.
