The Cher Show Tony Award winner Stephanie J. Block is among the headliners for Bay Area Cabaret’s 2019–2020 season at The Venetian Room at San Francisco’s historic Fairmont Hotel.

Also on the bill are Tony Award winner LaChanze (Summer, The Color Purple, If/Then), and Tony nominees Max von Essen (An American in Paris) and Maurice Hines (Uptown… It’s Hot, Sophisticated Ladies).

Hines will open the season October 13 with his acclaimed nightclub act Tappin’ Thru Life, which takes audiences through his life and career, including tributes to his brother, the late Gregory Hines, as well as Frank Sinatra and Lena Horne. Hines will be joined by tap protégés The Manzari Brothers, and the Diva Jazz Orchestra. Showtime is 7:30 PM.

LaChanze, who just wrapped up a run in the Off-Broadway musical The Secret Life of Bees, will perform her autobiographical solo show Feelin’ Good on November 19 at 7:30 PM. Jazz and cabaret vocalist Carole J. Bufford follows with her latest show, You Don’t Own Me: Fearless Females of the Sixties, November 24 at 5 PM.

The Venetian Room will also welcome the returns of jazz musician John Pizzarelli on January 19, 2020, at 4 PM, as well as Grammy-nominated vocalist Stacey Kent on February 27, 2020, at 7:30 PM.

Von Essen, who played San Francisco’s Golden Gate Theatre earlier this season with the national tour of Falsettos, returns in his Bay Area cabaret debut March 8, 2020, with Call Me Old Fashioned. He’ll be joined by jazz pianist Billy Stritch, and a special guest to be announced, for the 5 PM show.

Block closes out the season May 10, 2020, at 7:30 PM with a special Mother’s Day performance. The California native, who became a San Francisco favorite during the 2003 pre-Broadway premiere of Wicked, returns to the Bay Area as a newly crowned Tony Award winner for her star turn in The Cher Show.

Bay Area Cabaret will announce details for A Very Jazz Cabaret on April 26 at 7:30 PM at a later date.
