Film & TV News Tony Winner Phylicia Rashad Will Guest Star on NBC’s This Is Us The stage and screen star will make her debut on the acclaimed drama during the second half of the third season.

Tony winner Phylicia Rashad, who can be seen in a recurring role on the Fox series Empire, will guest star in an upcoming episode of the hit NBC drama This Is Us, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The actor, who is best known for her work on The Cosby Show, has been cast as Carol, Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson)’s mother. Rashad is scheduled to make her debut during the second half of the third season. The series returns January 15.

Rashad made history with her performance as Lena Younger in the 2004 Broadway revival of Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun, becoming the first black actor to win a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play. In 2016 she was inducted into the Theater Hall of Fame and received the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Leading Actress in a Play for her performance as Shelah in Tarell Alvin McCraney's Head of Passes at the Public Theater.
