Cynthia Nixon, who earned a Tony Award earlier this year for her performance in The Little Foxes, will headline an upcoming invite-only presentation of The Saintliness of Margery Kempe.

The Sex and the City star takes on the title role in the comedy, which explores the life of the Christian mystic figure and the discrepancy between her ambitions and actual abilities.

Tony-winning producer John Wulp wrote the play during his service in the U.S. Marine Corps in the early 1950s. It premiered in 1957 at the Poet’s Theatre. Though it returned to the stage two years later at the York Playhouse with drastic revisions, the upcoming reading will feature his original script.

Tony nominee Austin Pendleton will direct; he also appears in the cast. Joining him and Nixon are Tony nominee Brad Oscar, Ginger Grace, Michael Mandell, Pippa Pearthree, Molly Regan, Thomas Sommo, and Jim Walton.

The invite-only reading will take place October 20.
