New Jersey’s McCarter Theatre Center has announced its 2017-2018 season, which includes the world premiere of a timely new comedy by Tony winner Christopher Durang. Titled Turning Off the Morning News, the play explores the chaos of family life in a time of alternative facts, social media saturation, and a news cycle that never ceases.

Turning Off the Morning News will conclude the McCarter’s season next spring with direction by Emily Mann. Performances are scheduled to run May 4–June 3, 2018, in the Berlind Theatre.

The season will kick off this fall with a revival of Sam Shepard’s rarely-seen drama Simpatico, featuring Chicago’s Red Orchid Theatre company. Directed by Dado, performances will run September 8–October 8 in the Berlind Theatre.

The production will be followed by Randy Johnson’s biographical tale A Night with Janis Joplin, set to play October 10–29 in the Matthews Theatre, as well as the return of the McCarter’s annual holiday show, A Christmas Carol (December 5–31).

In the new year, the New Jersey theatre will stage Marie Jones’ Stones in His Pocket, directed by Lindsay Posner (January 12–February 11, 2018), followed by Regina Taylor’s Crowns, adapted from Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry’s book of the same name (March 13–April 1, 2018).

Subscription packages are available by calling McCarter Theatre Center at (609) 258-5050, online at mccarter.org, or in person at the McCarter Theatre Ticket Office, located at 91 University Place in Princeton, New Jersey.
