Awards Tony Winner Billy Porter Will Be Honored With Courageous Voice Award at 7th Annual Voice Awards Shoshana Bean will perform “This Is Me” at the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles celebration.

Kinky Boots Tony winner Billy Porter will receive the Courageous Voice Award at the 7th Annual Voice Awards, hosted by Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles, May 5.

Porter is being honored for his “unwavering boldness and decades-long perseverance” and for “never abandoning his proud identity as a gay black man, even when there were no roles for him.”

Executive Director of Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles Jonathan Weedman said in a statement, “We are absolutely thrilled to recognize Billy Porter for not only his brilliant artistic achievement, but as a great Citizen Artist, who is a role model and example for all of us through his out and proud activism and commitment to our Community.”

The evening at the Dolby Ballroom will kick off with Shoshana Bean's rendition of “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman.

Others who will be honored include political strategist Ana Navarro and young gay activist Zach Johnson of Crescenta Valley High School, who will be presented with the inaugural Rising Voice Award.

The Voice Awards honor individuals and institutions who raise their voice to advance social justice and equality. Proceeds go to support GMCLA’s pioneering and groundbreaking youth and community outreach programs.
