Tony Winner Alex Sharp Reveals Broadway Producer Jordan Roth Jump-Started His Film Career | Playbill

Film & TV News Tony Winner Alex Sharp Reveals Broadway Producer Jordan Roth Jump-Started His Film Career The actor will appear in John Cameron Mitchell’s How to Talk to Girls at Parties.

It didn’t take long for Hollywood to scoop up Tony Award winner Alex Sharp. The actor made his Broadway debut in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, based on the novel of the same name, just months after graduating The Juilliard School.

Broadway producer and President of Jujamcyn Jordan Roth introduced Sharp to Tony winner John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and the Angry Inch) during the 2015 Tony festivities. Now, Sharp appears in Mitchell’s How to Talk to Girls at Parties.

”It was the first time I’d ever been on a film set,” says Sharp of the experience in the video above. “I was so stupid. The first day they were like, ‘Don’t forget to hit your mark’ and I was like, ‘Who’s Mark?’’’

But Sharp caught on. “John was incredibly patient with me and I learned a lot from him about how it works,” says Sharp. “Stage acting is a different beast, and it’s also not as... well, there are some things that are completely applicable.”

How to Talk to Girls at Parties is currently screening (though not competing) in the 70th Annual Cannes Film Festival, which takes place through May 28. In the film, Sharp plays Enn, the teen hero who crashes a party thrown by local punk Queen Boadicea, played by Nicole Kidman, and falls for (who he believes to be) a foreign exchange student, played by Elle Fanning.
