Ashley Park is the newest Broadway star to take a classic Rodgers and Hammerstein song and flip it on its head.
Singing "Do-Re-Mi" from The Sound of Music, the Tony nominee incorporates hip-hop and pop to guide a board room through the building blocks of song.
The video, part of the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization's R&H Goes Pop series, features music direction by Meg Zervoulis, arrangements by Park, Enrico de Trizio, Meg Zervoulis, and music and sound design by Enrico de Trizio. Joining Park as backup dancers are her Mean Girls castmates Ben Cook, Kevin Csolak, DeMarius R. Copes, and Nikhil Saboo.
Park, currently on stage in the world premiere of Bess Wohl’s Grand Horizons at Williamstown Theatre Festival, most recently took the Broadway stage in Mean Girls, earning a Tony nomination. She is also set to star in Thoroughly Modern Millie as part of the upcoming Encores! season.
R&H Goes Pop has Broadway stars taking on new and pop-infused covers of classic Rodgers and Hammerstein show tunes. Recent editions have included Park's Mean Girls co-star Kyle Selig singing "The Sweetest Sounds," Derek Klena performing "Younger than Springtime" from South Pacific and Jelanni Aladdin and Matt Doyle doing a same-sex version of "We Kiss in the Shadow" from The King and I.
