15 years ago, Mean Girls entered movie theatres and, thanks to Tina Fey's constantly quotable script, pop culture lexicon. To celebrate the movie’s anniversary and announce a Broadway cast change, Fey dropped by The Today Show.

“It’s very, very special to me,” she said of the movie, adding that the film reaped its investment on the first weekend—no small feat for a teen comedy that had an all-female lead cast.

On the back-stabbing tactics of high school, Fey said things have changed in the past 15 years, though not necessarily for the better. “Women are doing better, but now I feel like the behavior has spread to everyone,” referring to the themes of the film echoed in modern politics.

Also a change since 2004? Social media. “In the movie, it’s three-way calling,” said Fey. Now, there's group chats. Watch the SNL and 30 Rock star, who was Tony-nominated last year for penning the musical's book, discuss with Savannah Guthrie below.

Fey also introduced the musical's incoming star: 19-year-old Reneé Rapp. As reported, the recent Jimmy Award winner will make her Broadway debut as Regina George.
