The Off-Broadway premiere of The Pink Unicorn, starring Tony Award winner Alice Ripley, officially opens May 15. The site-specific solo drama by playwright Elise Forier Edie finds Ripley (Next to Normal, Side Show) playing a Christian widow living in a conservative Texas town whose 14-year-old daughter announces that she is “gender queer,” and intends to start a gay–straight alliance in her high school.
Amy Jones directs the production, which began previews May 9 at the Episcopal Actors’ Guild. Out of the Box Theatrics, which utilizes non-traditional spaces to create site-specific theatre, produces the limited Off-Broadway engagement that runs through May 25.
Edie, a playwright and actor, has performed the solo play across the U.S., including a previous New York appearance at the United Solo Festival. Tickets, priced $99, are available at ootbtheatrics.com. The Episcopal Actors’ Guild is located at 1 East 29th Street.
