Shortly after bowing out of Netflix’s The Crown, Emmy winner Claire Foy and co-star Matt Smith will reunite on stage. The two are set to star in Duncan Macmillan’s Lungs at the Old Vic. Artistic Director Matthew Warchus will direct. Exact dates will be announced later.
The season will first begin with the world premiere of Lucy Prebbles’ A Very Expensive Poison, based on the book by Luke Harding. John Crowley will direct the spy thriller, set against the backdrop of an assassination in London. Performances will begin August 19 with opening night set for September 5.
The lineup also includes the holiday return of the Warchus-directed A Christmas Carol, adapted by Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Tony winner Jack Thorne; Tony winner Alan Cumming and Daniel Radcliffe in a double bill of Samuel Beckett’s Endgame and Rough for Theatre II helmed by Richard Jones; and the London premiere of the musical Local Hero, penned by the film’s Bill Forsyth with David Greig and Mark Knopfler. John Crowley will direct the June 2020 production.
Additionally, the London venue has revealed a lineup of upcoming commissions, including new adaptations of Oedipus Rex and An Enemy of the People from Ella Hickson and Simon Stephens, respectively, a new NHS-focused piece by Paul Unwin, and a new incarnation of Kate Prince’s Sylvia, seen preciously at the Old Vic in a developmental run.
