Performances begin June 12 for Mike Lew's Teenage Dick, a re-imagining of Shakespeare's Richard III, receiving its world premiere at the Public Theater by Drama Desk and Obie Award-winning Ma-Yi Theater Company in association with The Public. Gregg Mozgala, who recently starred in Caryl Churchill's Light Shining In Buckinghamshire at New York Theatre Workshop and Martyna Majok's Pulitzer Prize-winning Cost of Living, stars as Richard, a teenager with cerebral palsy.

Teenage Dick is directed by two-time Tony Award nominee Moritz von Stuelpnagel and choreographed by Jennifer Weber (KPOP). Performances are scheduled through July 15 with a June 20 opening night.

The cast also includes Marinda Anderson, Alex Breaux, Shannon DeVido, Sasha Diamond, and Tiffany Villarin.

Set at Roseland High, Teenage Dick tells the story of a 16-year-old outsider in the deepest winter of his discontent: his junior year. Picked on because of his cerebral palsy (as well as his sometimes-creepy Shakespearean way of speaking), Richard is determined to have his revenge and make his name by becoming president of the senior class.

The Off-Broadway premiere features set design by Wilson Chin, costume design by Junghyun Georgia Lee, lighting design by Miriam Crowe, sound design by Fabian Obispo, and movement coordination by Robert Westley. Alyssa K. Howard is the production stage manager, and Zach Longstreet is production manager.

Teenage Dick was developed and commissioned by The Apothetae, Mozgala's theatre company dedicated to nurturing plays that explore and illuminate the disabled experience. The play was also developed by The Public Theater as part of its 2016 Public Studio Series, and the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center’s National Playwrights Conference. The production is part of The Lark’s Venturous Playwright Fellowship Program.
