Taylor Trensch, who was scheduled to assume the title role in the Tony-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen February 6, played his first performance a few days early. The Hello, Dolly! star took the stage at the Music Box Theatre January 30.
Trensch will go on again January 31 and February 1 evenings, as well as the February 3 matinee.

The Real O'Neals' Noah Galvin, who succeeded Tony winner Ben Platt in November, will play all other performances before his final bow at the Music Box February 4.

Trensch's previous Broadway credits include The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Matilda, and Wicked.

Dear Evan Hansen features a score by the Tony- Oscar-, and Grammy-winning songwriting team of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (Dogfight, A Christmas Story), a book by Tony winner Steven Levenson (Masters of Sex), choreography by Danny Mefford (Fun Home), and direction by multiple Tony nominee Michael Greif (Rent, Next to Normal, If/Then).
Original cast members Laura Dreyfuss, Tony winner Rachel Bay Jones, Jennifer Laura Thompson, Tony nominee Mike Faist, Michael Park, and Will Roland have all extended their contracts and will remain with the musical through May. Kristolyn Lloyd will depart in March.
On Wednesday and Saturday matinees, the role of Evan is performed by Michael Lee Brown.
