In the video above, watch a sneak peek of Q Theatricals’ high-tech musical adventure Ernest Shackleton Loves Me, which has taken over Second Stage’s Tony Kiser Theatre through June 11.
Second Stage has been transformed into the vast and snowy Antarctic for the show, which is written by Memphis playwright and lyricist Joe DiPietro with music by Brendan Milburn, lyrics by electro-violinist Valerie Vigoda, and direction by Lisa Peterson. Vigoda stars as a single mom who is unexpectedly thrown into an adventure with a famous polar explorer, played by Priscilla Queen of the Desert’s Wade McCollum.
Following a world premiere in Seattle and subsequent engagements in New Jersey and Boston, Ernest Shackleton Loves Me arrived in New York April 14 and will officially open May 7.
The creative team includes Ryan O’Connell (music direction), Alexander V. Nichols (production design), Chelsea Cook (costume design), and Tony winner Rob Kaplowitz (sound design and original compositions). The production is produced by Q Theatricals.
