Kyle Beltran (The Amateurs, Head of Passes), Enver Gjokaj (As You Like It), and Rebecca Naomi Jones (As You Like It, Significant Other) star in the New York premiere of Fire in Dreamland at The Public Theater. The new play by Rinne Groff, directed by Marissa Wolf, began previews June 19.
Set in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, Fire in Dreamland follows disillusioned do-gooder Kate (Jones) and Jaap (Gjokaj), a charismatic European making a film about the 1911 fire that burned down Coney Island’s Dreamland amusement park. Billed as a play that "breaks the boundaries of time and space," and a story that looks at the potential to create in the face of devastation, the work was originally commissioned by The Public and Berkeley Repertory Theatre.
