The West End premiere of Baz Lurhmann’s Strictly Ballroom, which opened April 24 at London's Piccadilly Theatre, will end its run October 27.

Plans for a U.S. premiere have not been announced.

Based on Luhrmann’s film of the same name, the production features a book by Luhrmann and Craig Pearce and direction and choreography by Drew McOnie. Strictly Ballroom follows the story of rogue championship ballroom dancer Scott, who defies the rules of competition to follow his heart and compete with left-footed partner Fran.

Strictly Ballroom premiered in Sydney, Australia, in 2014, and was seen in a revised Toronto staging in 2017.

Luhrmann co-wrote and directed the original 1992 film about the world of competitive ballroom dancing, which was first conceived and presented as a stage play. Catherine Martin, who designed the 1992 film, is the show’s costume designer. Sets are by Soutra Gilmour.
