Here, via email, we hear from young singing actress Sophia Anne Caruso, who will star in a limited engagement of the award-winning musical Ruthless! that will be presented in September at Stage 72 at The Triad to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

What show recently impressed you?
With all the shows that had short and limited runs, I felt like I was on a mad dash to see the shows that were closing that I hadn't seen yet. I recently attended Violet the night before closing and Bullets Over Broadway. It was great to see Sutton Foster in a role that had such a deep character, and I really enjoyed watching my good friend Emerson Steele as young Violet, and I am a huge fan of Joshua Henry — I want to see everything he is in. Saw Bullets over Broadway the same way, night before closing. This show blew me away. The choreography by Susan Stroman was off the charts. I loved everything about it, the story, the costumes, the dancing and the score. Marin Mazzie was flawless! I was sad it was closing. I wanted to see it again and again.

What production are you most excited to see?
There are so many shows coming up I am excited about. I am a dancer, so naturally I am excited for everything with lots of dance. The one that most excites me is On the Town. I have worked with Josh Bergasse on NBC's "Smash" and Secondhand Lions; I am a huge fan of his work. I am also looking forward to American in Paris. Robert Fairchild from New York City Ballet is pure perfection. I cannot wait to see him in a Love Story Musical. It's Only a Play is also on my must-see list; I can never get enough of Nathan Lane. I just love him; one of my personal goals is to share the stage with him someday. He inspires me.

What play/musical would you most like to revive on Broadway, and which role would you want to play?
I only have one answer. Ruthless! Since I was 8 years old when I saw this show for the first time, I have been in love ever since. (I'm 13 now.) It's the show that I must play on Broadway and not just one of the characters either. I want to play Tina Denmark first then Judy and finally Sylvia. It's like the entire show was written for me. The score by Marvin Laird is hilarious, and Joel Paley's book is brilliant; each character has so many layers. I simply must play every Lead Role!

What are your current/upcoming projects?
I am currently doing a limited run of Ruthless! as Tina Denmark at the Triad. The show benefits BC/EFA and runs Sept. 5-Sept. 22. It's exciting to be working with the show's creators on this one — Marvin [Laird] plays Sylvia, and Joel is my "understudy." He will be on Sept. 5, 15, 22. I will be doing the shows on Sept. 6, 8, 12, 13, 19, 20. People will have to come at least twice, to get the full effect of Tina madness! I also have an exciting project coming up for the fall that will be announced soon, so stay tuned.
