Film & TV News Speech & Debate Film Encourages Theatre Kids to Unite for a Social Media Viewing Party A portion of rentals and sales of the movie from June 8 through June 11 will benefit the Trevor Project.

In celebration of the upcoming Tony Awards, the film adaptation of Stephen Karam's Speech & Debate is throwing a social media viewing party. Fans are encouraged to take part in an online conversation by watching the film and using the hashtag #TheaterKidsUnite from June 8 through June 11.

During that time, a portion of all sales from rentals and purchases will be donated to the Trevor Project, which offers crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ youth.

Speech & Debate, written by Karam and directed by Dan Harris, stars Spring Awakening's Austin P. McKenzie, Liam James, and Sarah Steele (reprising her performance from the Off-Broadway premiere) as three teenagers frustrated by the parents and school who form their own makeshift debate club.

The cast also features Skylar Astin, Roger Bart, Janeane Garofalo, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Kal Penn, and Kimberly Williams-Paisley, as well as cameos from Lin-Manuel Miranda, Kristin Chenoweth, and Darren Criss.

The film is now available on iTunes.
