The Shubert Foundation has awarded $30 million in grants to 533 non-profit arts organizations across the U.S., marking the largest sum the grants program has bestowed in its 40-year history.

Ranging from $10,000 to $325,000, the Shubert Foundation’s unrestricted grants are awarded annually to a wide range of non-profit theatres, dance companies, and professional training programs—with a focus on supporting organizations that develop and produce new American works.

“Every organization receiving a 2018 Foundation grant has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to the performing arts,” said Foundation Chairman Philip J. Smith. “We want to help lift some of the financial burden so that the companies we support are able to focus on producing thought-provoking, relevant work for the widest possible audience.”

Arts organizations in 45 states plus Washington, D.C., were recipients of the 2018 Shubert Foundation grants. While 91 New York State performing arts organizations received $6,050,000 in funding (the most of any state), the Shubert Foundation also awarded grants to institutes and regional theatres across the country that serve as incubators for new works that ultimately arrive on Broadway and Off-Broadway stages.

Among them are the Alliance Theatre, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse, Center Theatre Group, Sundance Theatre Program, Deaf West Theatre, the Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center, Hartford Stage, Yale Repertory Theatre, the Goodman Theatre, Steppenwolf, American Repertory Theater, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Barrington Stage, the McCarter Theatre, and Oregon Shakespeare Festival, among others.
