Rent made its way to the small screen as Fox presented its broadcast of the Jonathan Larson musical January 27. The Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical is the third musical from the network, following Grease and A Christmas Story.
Leading the cast as the core group of bohemians were Jordan Fisher as Mark, Vanessa Hudgens as Maureen, Brennin Hunt (whose injury January 26 resulted in pre-recorded footage being used for much of the broadcast) as Roger, Tinashe as Mimi, Valentina as Angel, Brandon Victor Dixon as Tom Collins, Kiersey Clemons as Joanne, and Mario as Benny.
Michael Greif, Rent's original director, returns to helm the TV version with live television director Alex Rudzinski. The producing team includes Marc Platt and Julia and Al Larson, sister and father to the late Jonathan. Bernard Telsey, who cast the original production, also returned to assemble the company for the new small-screen adaptation.
