A workshop of the musical adaptation of the queer cult classic To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar will be presented this week, according to the New York Post. Among the cast are Tony winner Alice Ripley and Tony nominees Santino Fontana and Daniel Breaker.
Douglas Carter Beane, the Tony-nominated playwright and book writer who made his screenwriting debut with the 1995 film, penned the libretto with a score by his husband, composer Lewis Flinn.

As reported previously, the musical received a developmental presentation through the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in November featuring members of the Academy's New York acting company.
The complete cast for the reading features Fontana (slated to return to Broadway in Tootsie) as Vida Boheme, Breaker as Noxeema Jackson, Ripley as Carol Ann, Robin de Jesús (returning to Broadway this season in The Boys in the Band) as Chi Chi Rodriguez, Preston Sadleir as John Jacob/Billy Budd, Kenneth Clark as Tommy Paul, Ann Harada as Beulah June, Annie Golden as Clara Pearl, Andrew Samonsky as Ed Earl/Crazy Elijah, Michael McCormick as Sheriff Dollard, Jackie Hoffman as Betty Lou, Nicholas Barasch as Bobby Ray, Nikka Graff Lanzarone as Rose of Sharon, Chloe Kostman as Bobby Lee, and Susanna Phillips as Our Lady of the Highways, Sky and Sea.
Beane and Flinn previously worked together on the musical Lysistrata Jones, as well as Hood: The Robin Hood Musical Adventure. The latter made its world premiere at Dallas Theater Center and is eyeing a potential Broadway transfer.
