Pretty Woman: The Musical co-stars Samantha Barks and Andy Karl dropped by the Playbill studio to talk about the brand-new musical adaptation, which begins previews on Broadway July 20. What is Pretty Woman really about? The leading duo explain the story—in their own terms—in the video above.

Directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, Pretty Woman: The Musical will open at Broadway's Nederlander Theatre August 16. The show arrives on Broadway following a world premiere in Chicago and stars Barks as Vivian alongside Karl as Edward.

Completing the principal cast are Orfeh as Kit, Eric Anderson as Mr. Thompson, Ezra Knight as James Morse, and Jason Danieley as Philip Stuckey.

Based on the 1990 romantic comedy, Pretty Woman features a book co-written by the film’s director, the late Garry Marshall, and screenwriter J.F. Lawton, and music by Grammy winner Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance.

The production features scenic design by David Rockwell, costume design by Gregg Barnes, lighting design by Kenneth Posner and Philip S. Rosenberg, sound design by John Shivers, hair design by Josh Marquette, music supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations by Will Van Dyke, and casting by Telsey + Company.
