Sam Elliott, a two-time Golden Globe nominee for his performances in Buffalo Girls and Conagher, has landed a role in the forthcoming remake of the showbiz classic A Star Is Born, according to Deadline.

As previously reported, the Warner Bros. film will co-star Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper; the latter will also be at the helm, marking his directorial debut. Filming is scheduled to begin in mid-April; a previous item in the Hollywood Reporter gave a release date of September 28, 2018.

Elliott, who can be seen in the Netflix series The Ranch, will play the role of Bobby, who manages Gaga and Cooper's characters.

Gaga, the internationally-known pop singer who scored a Golden Globe Award for her work in American Horror Story: Hotel, will star in the title role of the long-aborning remake. The motion picture will feature original songs written and performed by the Grammy winner.

Cooper, a Tony nominee for The Elephant Man, will collaborate with screenwriter Will Fetters. In the latest version, the female role, originally portrayed as a movie star on the rise, has been reconceived as a small-time nightclub singer who eventually achieves international stardom.

The original 1937 film was co-written by Dorothy Parker and Alan Campbell, and starred Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. It was remade in 1954 with James Mason and Judy Garland, then remade again in 1976 with Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand.
