Royal Shakespeare Company is adapting David Walliams’ The Boy in the Dress, an affirming novel for children ages eight to twelve. The family-friendly musical adaptation will feature all-new songs from Robbie Williams and Guy Chambers, a script by former RSC playwright-in-residence Mark Ravenhill, and direction by RSC's artistic director Gregory Doran.

The Boy in the Dress will begin performances at RSC November 8 and is scheduled to continue through March 8, 2020.

In The Boy in the Dress—the first book by Little Britain co-creator Walliams—Dennis is 12 years old and his school football team’s star striker. After his mother left two years ago, the only memento Dennis has is a photo of her in a beautiful yellow dress. Dennis spots a similar dress on the cover of Vogue, as well as in the notebook of the coolest girl in school—is it a sign that he should try wearing one?

The production will feature design by Robert Jones, choreography by Aletta Collins, and lighting by Mark Henderson. Further creative team, and casting, will be announced at a later date.
