Ronald Peet (The I-Land, Cute Activist) will star as Franklin in the world premiere of Jeremy O. Harris’ play "Daddy," an exploration of intimacy and identity in which Basquiats, gospel, and fantasy collide around a Bel Air swimming pool. The new play, directed by Danya Taymor, will debut at The Pershing Square Signature Center in the spring in a co-production from The New Group and The Vineyard.
Peet will play young artist Franklin alongside the previously announced Alan Cumming as Andre, an older white art collector. In "Daddy," Franklin and Andre's feverish link deepens into an irresistible bond, pushing Franklin's mother, played by Charlayne Woodard (POSE), into a battle of wills over the soul of the man they both call baby.
Completing the cast will be Tommy Dorfman (13 Reasons Why) as Max, Kahyun Kim (American Gods) as Bellamy, and Hari Nef (Transparent) as Alessia.
Performances of "Daddy," will begin February 12, 2019, in The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at the Signature Center. Opening will be March 5.
The limited Off-Broadway engagement will feature scenic design by Matt Saunders, costume design by Montana Levi Blanco, lighting design by Isabella Byrd, and sound design by Lee Kinney. Casting is by Judy Henderson, CSA, and the production stage manager is Valerie A. Peterson.
Harris' Slave Play is currently in performances at New York Theatre Workshop in a world premiere directed by Robert O'Hara.
