Regional News Robin De Jesús Will Lead Olney Theatre's In The Heights as Usnavi Broadway’s original Sonny will take on a new role in the Maryland theatre’s fall production.

Maryland's Olney Theatre Center presents Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony-winning musical In The Heights this fall as the kickoff production in its 2017–2018 season. Directed and choreographed by Marcos Santana and co-produced by Round House Theatre, the show will star Robin De Jesús as Usnavi—the role Miranda originated in the Broadway run.

De Jesús originated the role of Sonny, Usnavi’s younger cousin, in the original Broadway production and earned a Tony nomination for his work. He earned a second nomination for his performance as Jacob in the 2010 revival of La Cage Aux Folles.

Rounding out the cast are Linedy Genao (Vanessa), Mili Diaz (Nina), Marquise White (Benny), Rayanne Gonzales (Abuela Claudia), Natascia Diaz (Daniela), Michael J. Mainwaring (Sonny), Danny Bolero and Vilma Gil (Nina's parents Kevin and Camila), Juan Drigo Ricafort (Graffiti Pete), Tobias A. Young (Piragua Guy), and Scean Aaron, Eunice Bae, Sharlane Conner, Andre Hinds, Jesse Jones, Ashleigh King, Rebecca Kritzer, and Melissa Victor in the ensemble.

Olney Associate Artistic Director Christopher Youstra will provide music direction. The production will also feature scenic design by Milagros Ponce de Léon, lighting design by Cory Pattak, costume design by Frank Labovitz, and sound design by Matt Rowe.

With a book by Quiara Alegría Hudes and music and lyrics by Miranda, In the Heights won Tonys for Best Musical, Best Score, Best Choreography, Best Orchestrations in 2008.
