Tony nominee Robert Cuccioli (Jekyll & Hyde), Daniel Oreskes (Oslo), and Socorro Santiago (The Bacchae) are among the cast of Red Bull Theater's upcoming revival of The White Devil, directed by Louisa Proske. John Webster’s 17th century revenge tragedy, which hasn't been seen in New York for over 50 years, will be staged in the Lucille Lortel Theatre, which will be re-configured into a three-quarter thrust.

Performances of The White Devil will begin March 19 ahead of a March 31 opening night.

The cast will also feature Amara James Aja (Twelfth Night at The Old Globe); Jenny Bacon (Heartless), Lisa Birnbaum (F#%king Up Everything), Edward O’Blenis (Coriolanus), Cherie Corinne Rice (Romeo & Juliet at Shakespeare Festival St. Louis), Tommy Schrider (War Horse); Tony nominee Derek Smith (The Green Bird), and T. Ryder Smith (Oslo).

According to director Proske, the Off-Broadway production will interpret Webster's White Devil as a contemporary dystopia, a deep dive into the maze of political power. Using live video to mirror Webster’s world of perversion, surveillance and violence, the play traces a love affair and the story of an extraordinary woman in a world of deceit, objectification, and fake news.

"Webster is a playwright for our time. Writing about a society on its slide towards civil war, he described the corrosion of institutions by greed and hypocrisy and the lack of any future for young people with an urgency that makes the roller-coaster plot of The White Devil seem as if snatched from current headlines," says Proske. "Its deeper concerns—corruption, rampant voyeurism, and systemic misogyny—speak directly to our present experience, though in the poetic, visceral, juicy language of 1612 rather than the truncated twitter lingo of 2019.”

The White Devil will have set design by Kate Noll, costume design by Beth Goldenberg, lighting design by JiYoun Chang, sound design by Chad Raines, and video design by Yana Birÿkova.
