Rita Moreno, who won an Oscar for her work as Anita in the original West Side Story movie, recently appeared on Busy Tonight to talk about the new adaptation from Steven Spielberg and Tony Kushner.
The 87-year-old actor was also joined by One Day at a Time co-star Justina Machado and Gloria Calderon, who created the Netflix reboot of the hit ’70s show.
The EGOT winner, who will play Valentina, owner of the candy store, in West Side Story, said she is “beside myself” about appearing in the movie musical. “I'm so excited!”
“Here's what's really important,” Moreno, also an executive producer on the project, added. “All the Latinos are actually going to be Latino.” Watch the complete interview above.
The multi-talented actor, dancer, and singer is one of only a handful of performers to receive all four major American entertainment awards, winning the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards. Her credits span more than seven decades, beginning with her Broadway debut at age 13. She has starred on Broadway and in London’s West End, appeared in more than 40 feature films and countless television shows, and performed in numerous regional theatres and in her one-woman show (Life Without Makeup) at Berkeley Rep.
