Off-Broadway’s Rattlestick Playwrights Theater has announced that it will stage Xavier Galva’s The Parlour this fall as part of its Middle Voice program, the initiative dedicated to developing and producing work by a collective of young and diverse theatre makers. The theatre has also revealed its slate of 2017–2018 fellowships and commissions.

Middle Voice, a group of 27 young theatre makers from traditionally underrepresented communities, was founded by playwright Lucy Thurber, who serves as a mentor to the writers, actors, directors, and producers.

Galva’s play The Parlour, which peels back the curtain on the chaotic world of New York City fine dining, will play a limited engagement September 6–10 with direction by Rattlestick Associate Producer Victor Cervantes, Jr. The cast will be made up of Chalan Cunningham, Edison Diaz, John Anthony Gorman, Nicole Kang, Angelica Katie Richardson, Jean-Patrick Simeon, and Pedro Aijon Torres.

The theatre also announced that its directing fellow will be Kevin Hourigan, who will work with the artistic director on cultivating projects for potential production in the future. Rattlestick Playwrights Theater’s Tow Playwight-in-Residence will be Diana Oh, whose work {{ (_variables.my ?? object.my) lingerie play|raw }} 2017: THE CONCERT AND CALL TO ARMS!!!!!!!!! The Final Installation is set to begin previews September 27. As previously announced, the production will kick off the theatre’s 2017–2018 season.

Lastly, the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation’s Program to Advance Women in the Performing Arts commission—in partnership with Rattlestick—has been awarded to Cori Thomas for her play Lockdown.
